Best Time to Visit: Spain and in particular the Province of Manilva, is worth a visit at any time of the year. The days are usually warm or hot and whilst there are four seasons, in reality there are two main periods to consider, Winter and Summer. Spring and Autumn do exist but they tend to merge into summer simply being less hot than the very hot June ,July, August and September. The warm days during the winter provide a welcome relief to the dreary and damp days of the UK. The evenings however can be cooler than most believe. Also at times the wind can be cold and the rain heavy - however the beauty is that any inclement weather is short lived and the warm climate soon returns. In the UK we can retire into a warm centrally heated home to escape "the weather" in many Spanish properties however they do not have central heating as we know it, relying on electric heaters for the short periods that additional heating is required. It is therefore important to prepare for this. Most of the time all that is required is a light jumper during the day and a fleece after the sun goes down. Winter is usually defined as November to February From March onwards the daytime is longer; the sun higher and warmer; the flowers and countryside are more colourful, reaching a crescendo of heat and night time warmth in August. Swimming pools have heated to acceptable temperatures, encouraging a regular dip to keep cool and of course fit. Care needs to be taken in these high temperatures with regular application of factor 30+ sun cream throughout the day. The balmy nights are just a joy to be out in. It is of course at this time when the Spanish community comes to life. The ferias cascade along the coast and inland towns with each community having their week end festivity at least twice during the summer. These "must see" events can be very entertaining and carry on well into the early hours of the morning. So do take advantage of the local custom of a Siesta. Summer is usually defined as March to November. |
